Skywatch #20 - Development Update
Welcome to this months Skywatch!
This one's a bit shorter than usual, as the team have been putting a lot of time in to the next big milestone update, but we hope you enjoy what we have to share with you.
UX
Our UX designer, Ellen, is continuing to work on the in-game compendium. Here's an updated look at how that's shaping up.
Island
Our principal game developer, Tom Jackson, has been working on some energy walls and VFX for them. The idea behind these walls is that they will be placeable in the island creation process, as a way to block off certain areas of interest. You can take a look at these in action in the gif below.
Next up, our principal technical artist, Andy Green, has been hard at work on wind implementation. The gif below shows off some early work on wind, and how it affects foliage and player cloth physics.
A few weeks ago, we shared some of the physics puzzle concepts with you. 3D modelling work has now started on these, and they'll soon be ready to be added into the game!
Our lead Artist, Klaudia, has been working on updating some of our Saborian and wooden textures and shaders, as can be seen in the images below.
Klaudia's also been working on our second region for the game, which will be Autumnal in nature. You can see an early look at this in the video clip and shots below.
Finally on islands this time, we have an early look at our work in progress wind wall and cloud updates for you.
Enemies
Finally for today's Skywatch, here's a look at some of the additional work that's being done on our drone NPC's. Concept work is done by our talented artist, Jonathan Betts, and the 3D model work is being completed by John Warner.
Island Creator Showcase
This month, we're sharing UgLY's work yet again.
'Saborian Armada' by UgLY.
Whilst not technically an island, we're super impressed with these awesome ancient skyships that UgLY has created using the island creator. UgLY no doubt plans to use these as ruined skyships on different islands, so we can't wait to come across them on some of their islands in-game!
And that's all for this Skywatch. We hope you've enjoyed it!
See you next time.
